Mosquito Joe - Community Event - 65 Roses65 Roses Golf Classic

When: Friday, May 11th

Where: Brookwoods Golf Club · 7325 Club Drive · Quinton, Virginia 23141

Why: Meet Tyler Grazioso. Tyler is a typical 12-year-old boy who likes to do all the things other boys his age enjoy. He loves to play basketball (he aspires to be in the NBA when he grows up!). He is very outgoing. He’s got a great sense of humor and an infectious giggle. He picks fights with his big brother but is the first to defend him should anyone else try to do the same. He loves his Xbox. He plays the saxophone. He doesn’t care much for school work. He’s a picky eater. He can be super aggravating, but also super kindhearted and sweet. He’s got a grin that will melt your heart. He loves his enormous German Shepherd, Nala. He loves Star Wars, Disney, the Redskins, the Cleveland Cavaliers (especially Kyrie Irving) and his friends and his family. Tyler is no different from any other 12-year old boy, except that he was born with a life-threatening disease known as Cystic Fibrosis.

Breathing is a daily struggle for Tyler and others living with CF. Imagine strapping on a noisy vest that pounds your chest and back continuously for 30 minutes. Now imagine doing that twice each day, every day, no matter what. Now imagine adding a nebulizer treatment for the duration of each chest compression session (again, twice a day, every day, no matter what). Add to that dozens of enzyme pills taken daily (a handful of giant horse pills with each meal or snack) so that your body can absorb enough nutrients to maintain healthy growth. And if you’re a picky eater, add the challenge of finding enough foods that you actually like and are sufficiently nutritious. Now add to all of that one of the most expensive pills in American medicine, Kalydeco, that rings up to a cost of more than $300,000 per year. Yes, you read that right and no, it’s not a typo. This is just a day in the life of Tyler Grazioso and many others living with CF. So, yeah other than the daily struggle to breathe and grow, Tyler is just an ordinary 12-year old boy whose life hangs in the balance every single day.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the digestive and respiratory system. Currently, there is no cure. The defective gene which causes CF substantially impairs normal respiratory and digestive functions, making the simple acts of breathing and eating a daily challenge. When the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) was established in 1955, children born with CF were not expected to live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, thanks to research and care supported by CFF, many people with CF are living into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

Mosquito Joe is proud to be sponsoring the 65 Roses Golf Tournament and to be supporting Tyler and others like him. Come out and swing for a cure to support an amazing cause. For more information, please visit their Facebook page.
